My First Time Fishing at Marion Reservoir

By Catman

I want to share with you a fishing experience I had while I was down fishing the Marion Reservoir Catfish Tournament at Marion Reservoir in Kansas. The day before the tournament I got the chance to go out on the lake with Warren, the local Catfish Guide from Canada Bait ‘N’ Tackle. We went out Saturday morning about 6a.m. As we were going to the first spot to fish, he pointed out several spots we might also try to fish later if not successful on the first try. Well it ended up that we didn’t have to fish any other spots. The first one we went to was the spot. We fished for about three hours throwing back a few smaller ones, even though we set no new records, we caught our limit of Catfish (one was over 10lbs.). As we fished, we talked a lot about Marion Reservoir. While Warren talked, I realized that he was very knowledgeable about the lake with the information he shared and answering my many questions that I had telling me about the fishing and characteristics of the lake.

Warren explained that the bait shop has been open for 10 years and he has been guiding for the last four years. When we were done fishing, it was back to the baitshop where he has a Fish Cleaning station. He cleaned and bagged my catch for me, another service he does for his patrons. If you ever get down to Marion Reservoir, I would highly recommend checking out a guide trip at Canada Bait ‘N’ Tackle with Warren. It was a very good experience in two ways, catching fish with Warren and getting a lot of information about Marion Reservoir.

I can’t wait to go back down there again.
