Channel Catfish: Fair. Several over five pounds have been reported. Night crawlers and poultry liver are the successful baits reported. Crappie: Good at the upper end of the lake. Fair elsewhere. Males in breeding color (black) are now being taken along banks in the creeks. Females are showing developing ovaries, but are not yet swollen. Most are small white crappie 6-7 inches in length. Live minnows and 1/32 oz. jigs or curl tails have been productive. Flathead Catfish: None reported. Try goldfish or small green sunfish. Bluegill Sunfish: Good. Are abundant near shore and eagerly taking bits of night crawler or small jigs and artificial baits. Green Sunfish: Good. Are close to shore and taking the same baits and lures as bluegill. Most are small, but make good bait for big flathead. Common Carp: Good. Several reports of large carp biting, but not all are landed. All have been taken on night crawlers so far. Fermented whole kernel corn is also an excellent bait for these fish. White Amur: None reported. Fermented corn is an excellent bait for these fish. A few are taken on night crawlers. The county fishing permits are available through the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and other selected vendors. |
