Channel Catfish: Good. Fishermen report catching several in an evening. Most are using Bee Jay, night crawlers or poultry livers. Crappie: Poor to fair. Crappie have left the shoreline during the day. They can be found near shore in the early morning and early evening. They can be located near cover in deep water during the day by drifting. Most are small, 6-8 inches, but a few are larger, 9-11 inches. Live minnows or jigs are the best baits. Flathead Catfish: None reported this week. Most have been caught on goldfish or green sunfish fished at night. Bluegill Sunfish: Excellent. Bluegills are abundant near shore and eagerly taking bits of night crawler, small insects or small jigs and flies. Most are hand size or smaller, but are fun for kids and grandpas too. A six-incher will produce two boneless fillets each larger than a large shrimp. Not many individuals refuse to clean or eat shrimp because they are too small! Green sunfish: Excellent. See comments on bluegills above. Common Carp: Good. Very few fishermen are fishing for carp, but large ones are available to be caught. Fermented corn, dough baits and night-crawlers are useful baits. White Amur: None reported. Fermented corn is an excellent bait for these fish. A few are taken on night crawlers.
