Zebra Mussels Zebra mussels can be found attached to
rocks lakewide and are expanding their population. Zebra mussel veligers are
too small to be seen with the unaided eye and they can be found in boat
livewells, minnow buckets, boat bilges, water toys and anything else that is
capable of holding even a small amount of water. Be sure to drain all
equipment before leaving the lake to avoid moving veligers to other waters.
THIS INCLUDES MINNOW BUCKETS, BOAT LIVEWELLS AND BILGES!!!
White Bass Fair Up to 16" Be sure of your
fish ID before keeping white bass. Look for surfacing shad and cast
Kastmasters and twistertails into the school.
Wiper Good Up to 8 lb. Same as white bass
and fishing is picking up. A few nice wipers being caught trolling near the
dam, walleye island, and Fish Cove.
Walleye Fair Up to 28" Match baits to the
current size of shad (3"). Hit windy shorelines early and late, look for
cooler water temps in the upper end of the reservoir right after a rain.
Crappie Slow Up to 15" Some crappies being
caught occasionally by walleye anglers trolling, otherwise fishing for
crappies has been slow.
Channel Catfish Good Up to 10 lb Catfishing
is good lakewide drifting cutbait, frogs, stinkbait, or shrimp.
White Perch Good If you can find a school
of white perch, vertical jig or cast small lures tipped with night crawlers.
All white perch in your possession must be dead. It is illegal to posses
live white perch.

Crappie creel limit and is effective January 1, 2005
A commercial fishermen is netting rough fish at Council
Grove Reservoir under contract by KDWP. Species being removed include
smallmouth buffalo, bigmouth buffalo, common carp, freshwater drum, river
carpsucker, and longnose gar. Please be watchful for nets and report any
individuals that are tampering with equipment.

Channel Catfish Good up to 5 lbs There has
been good action on channel catfish during inflow events.
Saugeye Fair to Good up to 5 lbs Saugeye are
still being found around rocky shorelines in shallow water and are being
caught on swimbaits, crankbaits, or jigs.
White Bass Fair up to 15 inch Mainlake
points and channel breaks on jigs, spoons, or crankbaits. Also along the
dam.
Wiper Few recent reports Wiper were
stocked in Council Grove during the spring of 2008. Some of these fish are
approaching 14-inches in length. They are being caught along with the white
bass so be sure to examine your catch closely as there is a 18-inch length
limit and 2/day creel on wipers! Click HERE for information on properly

White Crappie Fair to Good Up to 14 inch
Crappie action has been up and down this past week. Fish are being caught
near shore next to cover on bobber and minnow. Crappie are also being caught
in front of the dam in water 15 to 20 feet deep. 20/day creel limit on
crappie at Council Grove.

Blue catfish
Slow up to 18-inch No recent reports on Blues. The majority of these fish
are below the 35-inch minimum length limit and must be released immediately.
Wiper Fair up to 22-inch Wipers can be
caught on shallow flats during warmer days throwing crankbaits, jigs, or
inline spinners.
White bass Fair up to 14-inch Fish can be
found along rocky or rip rapped shorelines in the lake. Trolling crankbaits
or casting jigs/spinners are good techniques.
White crappie Fair up to 14-inch Crappie
fishing has been sporadic with the unstable weather we've been experiencing.
With the onset of cooler weather again, look for the larger females in water
5 to 8 feet deep off of the spawning areas.
Channel Catfish Fair up to 4 lbs Windy
shorelines on shad sides. Nightcrawlers in the creeks when inflows are
occurring.
Walleye Fair up to 28-inch Walleye are
currently being caught in many locations and at a wide range of depths.
Walleye are beginning to show up on the flats and a jig and crawler combo is
an excellent choice this time of year. THE 2010 WALLEYE LENGTH LIMIT IS
21-INCHES WITH A 2/day CREEL LIMIT.

Cat Fair up to 5lbs Using dip bait. Look for channel cat in
shallow water.
White Crappie Fair 10"+ Look for Crappie
on the dam and at windy points and in shallow areas. Try using minnows
for bait.
Walleye Good 18"+ Try fishing from the
bank and on points with wind blowing into or across points. Walleye can
be caught on a jig and night crawler combo on the flats. Remember to
measure your catch, all walleye less than 18" must be released.
White Bass Good Up to 2 lbs White bass
fishing has slowed down in the river, but is picking up on the dam at
night. Marion ranked #1 in the fishing forecast for white bass. Make
sure you can identify your catch. For tips on identifying a white bass

Wiper Good Up to 8 lbs Wiper can be
caught mixed in with the White Bass on points and drops with crankbaits
and curly tailed grubs. Hit the dam and rocky points. Look around the
standing timber at the north end.

Spinnerbaits, slashbait, and cranks in water 1 to 3 feet deep. We saw very
good numbers and sizes of bass during the spring electrofishing sample that
was conducted 5/3/2010.
Bluegill Fair to Good up to 7-inch Small
livebait offerings under a float next to shoreline cover. Fish are up
shallow and are bunching up. If you aren't catching any fish, keep moving as

Fair to Good Up to 24-inch Cats are being caught off the piers and other
shorelines as well on a variety of baits including stinkbaits, livers, and
cut bait. Some nice cats exceeding 10lbs have been caught recently. Inflows
will concentrate cats in the upper end creating some fast cat action.
Largemouth Bass Fair 9 to 17-inch Upper ends
of coves and along the fishing piers. On warm days you will find the bass
shallow. Try slow rolling a spinnerbait or fish a slashbait just off of the
shoreline. There is a 13 to 18 inch slot limit on Largemouth Bass in effect
at the lake.
Saugeye Fair to Good up to 22-inch Casting
plastics along the dam and slow trolling crankbaits in the upper end

Fair up to 9-inch Crappie have been caught in water 10 to 12 feet deep on
minnows with some crappie still being found shallow.

under a bobber next to shoreline cover. Fish are bunching up and are in
shallow water (less than 3 feet deep).

guts or sides. Few anglers have been out recently but fishing will pick up

The feeders are now on the lake so try catfishing near
them in the mornings and evenings. White perch have been found in the lake,
and they can become a fisheries management nightmare. If you catch a white
perch, you must kill it; do not release it back into the water.

cats are being caught near the feeders on chicken livers and cut bait.
