Report by Missouri Angler Missouri Angler Buddy Bass Derby Results
Fishing conditions have not changed from last weeks report. The lake is still high and muddy. With the recent cold temperatures that settled in the lake area last week ice has formed in the back of the coves and on the banks. A warm front is forecasted for the rest of the week into next week, but with the cold muddy water conditions fishing will be a challenge. Because of the recent cold temperatures dipping down to 12 degrees at night and a high of 22 degrees during the day there hasn't been any anglers on the lake to my knowledge.
AmerenUE reports the lake level at 659.45 with heavy generation and spillway discharge for the next three days, which according to AmerenUE will give the lake level of 659.1 by Saturday, January 22nd. The surface water temperature ranges between 36 and 41 degrees with the warmer water being located in the lower end by Bagnell Dam. Truman Lake is 719.70, 13 feet above normal pool, which means it will take at least 2 to 3 weeks or longer for the Truman to get near normal pool if we don't experience more rain. The lake should begin clearing up within that time frame and get the winter bite back on the right track.
The good news is there is a steady bite below Bagnell Dam on the Osage River because of the heavy discharge. Reports that the crappie are biting good, as are the hybrids, walleye and catfish. Because of the heavy current from the discharge 1/2 ounce or heavier lead head jigs and hair jigs with white or watermelon trailers are producing well worked in the channel. The crappie are hitting Road Runners and marabou and tube jigs in white, chartreuse and yellow colors near the bank around laydowns and stickups out of the current.

It's time to be planning your outings for this year. The rooms are already filling up fast for this spring, if you plan on catching this year’s crappie or bass spawn, or the spring turkey hunt, you better make your reservations now.
There's been a lot of rain the past few weeks and it has the lake going up and down like a yoyo. It is currently dropping. The current cold spell has the lake freezing over. The coves are iced over and most of the main lake is starting to freeze over as well. The sun lunar time table charts have been updated for this year. These charts can be used to help narrow down the best times of the day, week or month to fish and hunt. Some fishermen and fishing tournaments plan trips around them, as well as hunters.
Speaking of tournaments, the schedule for this year is already taking shape.
Here's a link. The link located in the Fishing Trip Planning section of the South Fork Resort web site will also take you to it.This years fishing prospects for Mark Twain Lake as provided by the Fisheries Management Biologist.
Below are the prospects for Mark Twain for 2005.
As you know, fishing is dependent on a lot of factors that are difficult to predict, but this is the assessment based on surveys during 2004.Largemouth Bass fishing during 2004 was fair, and anglers can expect fishing to be similar during 2005. Based on spring 2004 surveys, bass abundance in Mark Twain has declined from the record levels during 2003. However, the abundance of bass at least 15 inches long should be higher during 2005 than it was during 2004, so anglers can expect to catch more larger fish this year. Three of every 10 fish caught during 2005 should exceed 15 inches long.
Crappie fishing during 2005 will also be similar to 2004, although the abundance of small crappie has declined. Fewer crappie in the lake during 2005 may lead to improved growth and more larger fish by summer's end if gizzard shad forage is adequate. Two or three of every ten crappie caught should exceed 9 inches long, and anglers should not have to filter through as many small crappie as they did during 2004.
White Bass fishing will remain sporadic. Anglers do best when these fish are spawning on riffles in tributary streams in early spring, or while feeding on schooling shad or congregating over underwater humps during the summer.
Walleye abundance remains low, although anglers are reporting more incidental catches than during most recent years. This may be a result of recent tributary stream stockings.
Catfish anglers can expect good fishing to continue this year. Many flathead catfish exceeding 25 pounds are caught each year on trot lines, bank lines, and jugs. Catfish anglers do best in the upper portions of North Fork, Middle Fork, and South Fork arms.

Report by Burton's Bait and Tackle
Water Temp:34 degrees and the lake is open.
The boat ramps are covered with ice and with the cold coming this week the lake
will probably freeze over again.
Trimble Wildlife area is closed to all boats. You can still use the W-boat ramp but can not go past the orange balls just North of the W bridge. If you put in at the Free ramp you can come South to the orange balls but not beyond.
CRAPPIE: Good: Some fish are still being caught but the fishing has slowed down. All of the marinas produce fish during the winter months but even that has slowed lately. Minnows or jigs bite are working. The docks at Campbranch are open to the public and fish are being caught. $2 per day to fish.
BASS: No Report: Not many people are fishing for the bass right now.
CATFISH: No Report
White Bass: Fair: Some are being caught around the docks by the crappie fisherman.

Branson Chapter of Trout Unlimited Meeting, January 25, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. at the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery.
GENERAL COMMENTS -
At the time of this report, lots of water. We have had considerable rainfall and Table Rock Lake came up one foot from yesterday at this time. On a more pleasant note - a reminder, we moved. Our new address is 2626 State Hwy. 165, just north of the Hatchery.
Water Conditions: Four generators going on Table Rock Dam and two generators going on Beaver Dam.
FLY FISHING TROPHY AREA (dam to Fall Creek)-SHALLOW WATER-WADING-
Hate to say it, but you should have been here last week. Water was off last Tuesday morning until Friday. Friday they ran one generator, Saturday ran one generator, then two, same thing on Sunday. Had it off for a couple hours Monday morning, then cranked it up. Other than a few hours early yesterday (midnight to 6:00 a.m.) morning, they have been running 3-4 generators. With all the rain we are getting, expect this will be the trend for a while.....again. We had trips out last week and this past weekend. Fishing was wonderful. Fish were as excited as us about the water being off. They hit almost anything you threw. Folks catching fish on dries...crackle backs and elk hair caddis, tan or gray scuds, and with the water off, dark olive soft hackles. Saturday and Sunday, when they had one or even two generators going, we fished the red tungsten midge or Worm Brown San Juan worms and did well. If we could find some slack water we could get to in our boats, the sulfur or holographic green crackle backs and dark olive soft hackles were the ticket. Weather really cooperated. It was in the upper 60s and low 70s. We saw the Old Year out with a great day on the water fishing with friends as well as the New Year in on the water fishing with friends.
STAN'S TIP: If you elect to fish up around the chutes with this high water running, BE CAREFUL! Had a gentlemen take a bath a little while ago as he drifted from the upper end of chute one to below chute one. Fortunately, there were some folks there who fished him out. Don't wade out too far. The current can get a little stronger after you venture out a ways.

Report for Grand River Arm by Bucksaw Marina
Fishing is slow all over the lake.
The creeks are frozen over. The lake is 15ft high and muddy.
They are dumping water at the damn.
We are looking for a great season of fishing. As soon as the water clears up we will start catching fish in the damn area.
I had a report that people were catching Walleye below the dam.
* New Missouri regulations require that jug lines be attended at all times.
