Report by Missouri Angler Missouri Angler Buddy Bass Derby Results
There hasn't been much change in the fishing conditions since last weeks report. The lake is still high for this time of the year and muddy, especially the Osage River. The Gravois, Grand Glaize, and Big and Little Niangua Rivers are beginning to clear in the upper ends. There has been ice in the coves and upper ends of the tributaries, but since the warm front moved in the lake area, the ice is beginning to melt or has melted in some areas. The ramps are open and launching is no problem.
AmerenUE reports the lake level at 658.9 and the surface water temperature at 39 degrees. Heavy generation is scheduled for the next three days and according to AmerenUE this should give the lake a level of 658.6 by Saturday, January 29th. Truman lake is 915, which is 9 feet over normal pool. The Corp of Engineers is releasing water daily, which is main cause for the muddy conditions at Lake of the Ozarks.
The weather has been cold and windy up until yesterday and there hasn't been any reports of anglers on the lake trying their luck at bass fishing. If this nice weather continues there should be some reports by next week on bass. Despite the inclement weather there have been some anglers fishing for crappie off docks with some success. The crappie being caught are averaging 9 to 10 1/2 inches and are being caught in 8 to 15 feet of water over or near brush piles. Minnows, tube jigs and Road Runners are the baits being used.
Hopefully if the weather continues to be warm as it has the last couple of days and there is no more rain, the tributaries should gradually clear up in a couple of weeks where they will be fishable for bass.

It's time to be planning your outings for this year. The rooms are already filling up fast for this spring, if you plan on catching this year’s crappie or bass spawn, or the spring turkey hunt, you better make your reservations now.
There's been a lot of rain the past few weeks and it has the lake going up and down like a yoyo. It is currently dropping. The current cold spell has the lake freezing over. The coves are iced over and most of the main lake is starting to freeze over as well. The sun lunar time table charts have been updated for this year. These charts can be used to help narrow down the best times of the day, week or month to fish and hunt. Some fishermen and fishing tournaments plan trips around them, as well as hunters.
Speaking of tournaments, the schedule for this year is already taking shape.
Here's a link. The link located in the Fishing Trip Planning section of the South Fork Resort web site will also take you to it.This years fishing prospects for Mark Twain Lake as provided by the Fisheries Management Biologist.
Below are the prospects for Mark Twain for 2005.
As you know, fishing is dependent on a lot of factors that are difficult to predict, but this is the assessment based on surveys during 2004.Largemouth Bass fishing during 2004 was fair, and anglers can expect fishing to be similar during 2005. Based on spring 2004 surveys, bass abundance in Mark Twain has declined from the record levels during 2003. However, the abundance of bass at least 15 inches long should be higher during 2005 than it was during 2004, so anglers can expect to catch more larger fish this year. Three of every 10 fish caught during 2005 should exceed 15 inches long.
Crappie fishing during 2005 will also be similar to 2004, although the abundance of small crappie has declined. Fewer crappie in the lake during 2005 may lead to improved growth and more larger fish by summer's end if gizzard shad forage is adequate. Two or three of every ten crappie caught should exceed 9 inches long, and anglers should not have to filter through as many small crappie as they did during 2004.
White Bass fishing will remain sporadic. Anglers do best when these fish are spawning on riffles in tributary streams in early spring, or while feeding on schooling shad or congregating over underwater humps during the summer.
Walleye abundance remains low, although anglers are reporting more incidental catches than during most recent years. This may be a result of recent tributary stream stockings.
Catfish anglers can expect good fishing to continue this year. Many flathead catfish exceeding 25 pounds are caught each year on trot lines, bank lines, and jugs. Catfish anglers do best in the upper portions of North Fork, Middle Fork, and South Fork arms.

Report by Burton's Bait and Tackle
Water Temp:34 degrees and the lake is open.
The boat ramps are covered with ice and with the cold coming this week the lake
will probably freeze over again.
Trimble Wildlife area is closed to all boats. You can still use the W-boat ramp but can not go past the orange balls just North of the W bridge. If you put in at the Free ramp you can come South to the orange balls but not beyond.
CRAPPIE: Good: Some fish are still being caught but the fishing has slowed down. All of the marinas produce fish during the winter months but even that has slowed lately. Minnows or jigs bite are working. The docks at Campbranch are open to the public and fish are being caught. $2 per day to fish.
BASS: No Report: Not many people are fishing for the bass right now.
CATFISH: No Report
White Bass: Fair: Some are being caught around the docks by the crappie fisherman.

GENERAL COMMENTS
Still running lots of water. On a more pleasant note - a reminder, we moved. Our new address is 2626 State Hwy. 165, just north of the Hatchery.
Water Conditions: Three generators going this morning when I checked. Tailwater level was 707.9 (normal 701.6) and Table Rock is at 915.2. Tailwater level is the lowest it has been for some time. Table Rock is almost at power pool (915.0), but Beaver still has considerable water. We might see a slow down of generation in the next week or so.....let's hope!
FLY FISHING TROPHY AREA (dam to Fall Creek)-SHALLOW WATER-WADING-
Past couple of days have been in the upper 60's! Took a boat out both days and caught several fish. Fish are laying in and on the edges of the weeds. Our most consistent fly was the red San Juan worm. Caught a fish or two on almost anything we threw, but the San Juan worm caught more, especially when fished on the edges of the weeds and working from the seams into toward the weed beds. On the flats where the current was fairly slow, we even caught some on dry flies! We caught several nice Rainbows, 17-18 inches, but it was a real mixed bag. Some of them looked like torpedoes! They were long and thin. And some were the normal well-fed looking Rainbows. Several of them had eggs and the males were very colorful. Reports from folks fishing up by the chutes that they are still catching them on a variety of patterns, depending on the day. The UV gray scud, chamois leech, hot pink micro San Juan worm, tan scuds to name a few. Probably tan scuds being the most consistent. Got a boat going out today, will let you know how they do. Weather is supposed to be in the mid to upper 40's this weekend. Might get some shows Friday.
STAN'S TIP: If you elect to fish up around the chutes with this high water running, BE CAREFUL! Had a gentlemen take a bath a little while ago as he drifted from the upper end of chute one to below chute one? Fortunately, there were some folks there who fished him out. Don't wade out too far. The current can get a little stronger after you venture out a ways.
