Updated 08/11/08 Lake Elevation at Normal Pool: 657.0 Temperature: Outflow: 16350 cfs Level: 30.00 feet high Fishing Report by: .bullshoalslakeboatdock.com See our new STEALS AND DEALS page for discounts on houseboat rentals and rooms at the Lighthouse Point resort. Hello everybody. Its been a few weeks since our last report. The fishing hasn't changed much at all. The lake level is around 685 and still dropping. The lake is starting to drop a few inches a day. New projections from the corp. show back to normal level around October 15th. The water temperature continues to rise and is up in the mid 80's on the surface. There is a major thermo cline around 30 foot level with a minor one around 20. .see Water temp/ oxygen level link. Visibility continues to be poor from the surface to 25 feet due to all the brush in the water, then it clears up to the average visibility at 15 to 20 feet depending on where you are in the lake. The bluffs should be the best. Have some new fish pictures. SEE fish picture page. Spear fishing season has been open a few weeks. Not much being brought in now that the catfish have finished spawning. There has been a few walleye. The divers are reporting them in the 25 to 35 foot level around the bluff ends and single trees out from the bank. We are into the summer patterns now that the water temp has risen above 80. Haven't had much activity reported but was has is below. BASS- NEW PATTERN- SPOONING 1/2 OZ IN 28 TO 32 FEET OF WATER IS PRODUCING ALL SPECIES OF FISH. MOSTLY WALLEYE AND BASS. Around the standing tree out from the back, bluff ends, and standing timber in the bluff ends. 1. Top water-- Flukes, spooks, and any other top water baits are working. This pattern is mostly in the early morning and late afternoon before the sun gets up and after it gets low in the sky. This patterns should start to slow down as the water temp warms up. However, with all the brush and trees in the lake, the fish have a place to hide from the sun and this pattern should continue. 2. night crawlers - with a small split shot worked over the top the brush, bluff ends and around the standing trees. Also, dragging them with a heavier weight in the 35 to 55 foot range in the old shoreline. 3. Minnows-- we are selling lots of minnows so somebody is catching fish on them. 4. 1/4 oz white road runners in 25 to 35 feet of water worked over the top of the brush. 5. Drop shot a small plastic worm or night crawler in 25 to 35 feet of water around the standing trees out from the bank. Use a weedless hook, leave a 12-14 inch tail of line after you tie the hook. Put a drop shot weight, swivel sinker or split shot on the end of the tail. Fish this straight down on the bottom, jigging it up and down off the bottom around the trees. NIGHT FISHING- Night fishing under lights has slowed down almost to a halt. Regular bass fishing is also slow at night. Too much brush for the average fisherman to deal with. White bass - . Day fishing has changed to trolling shad raps or other types on minnow stick baits-hard baits. 25 to 35 feet seems to be the depth to keep your bait in. Spooning is also producing some fish. Walleye - The walleye have moved down into the colder thermo cline water this week. They always go to this level when the surface temp warms up. They seem to be running in the 25 to 32 foot range. Spooning is the most productive this week around the trees out from the shoreline. Also try : split shoting a night crawler in on the old shoreline and ends of the timber bluffs. - trolling shallow to medium running reef runners and walleye divers along the shoreline above the brush in the 25 to 32 foot range. - Bottom bouncers with night crawlers on the old shoreline in 25 to 32 feet of water. - lindy rigs with night crawlers in that 25 to 35 foot range. Crappie - Still haven't seen many crappie. One or two here or there. I would like with the lake level and all the brush in the lake that they would be hard to target. As the lake drops and there is less brush in the lake I would think we should start to catch some. The night fishing under lights has produced some fish. Catfish- The catfish have moved up shallower. We have seen several BIG blue cats caught on limb lines this week. Trot lines and jug lines are producing some fish, it seems the limb line thing is working well. Just about any type of stink bait, liver, shrimp, blue gills, ect is working. I have been told anywhere from a 5 foot drop to a 35 foot drop. White River: The river fishing has been great!! Nothing new on the patterns. --- Worms, night crawlers, power baits, salmon eggs, Count down Rapalas, spoons, rooster tails, jigs and just about any other type of trout bait or pattern you have heard of. Come visit our expanded bait and Tackle department and good luck and good fishing to you all. For current fish pictures - see our picture page. Check out our newer and expanded tackle selection! Good luck and good fishing, and please come and see us at Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock for all your fishing needs…Thank you! Spillway water temperature is 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam is 500 CFS through the turbines. Crappie: Slow Crappie fishing has slowed this past week. The reports I’ve received have been mixed with most fish found in the deeper water along the bluffs. This is the first week I’ve noticed the water temperature has begun to cool. Although by only 2 degrees, I’m sure it’s a harbinger of what we can expect over the next few weeks as summer comes to a close. Catfish: Slow I fished hard with my visiting family this weekend for channel cats using jug and dock lines and light tackle and we caught zip, nil, nada, nothing with whiskers all weekend! This was the first time I’ve ever been skunked fishing for cats off our docks. Tommy Dees stated he’d been skunked as ell. We need a good solid front to blow down from the north and things should pick up nicely.Largemouth Bass: Good Son Bruce of Leavenworth, KA brought his family and father-in-law, Mike Payne of Weston, MO out for a visit this weekend and they did very well fishing for largemouth bass from our dock as is evidenced by this nice picture of Grandpa Payne and Bruce IV. Bruce III caught the 5# fish on a broken back silver Rapala minnow he worked by casting towards the base of the bluffs from the dock. He caught a second smaller fish a short time later after landing this fish. Both fish ere released unharmed. Well done gang! Walleye: Slow: Rusty Weir was in again Saturday morning and reported the walleye fishing had slowed as well. He stands by his earlier claim of trolling bright colored crank baits over the flats and along the main channel drop off edge. He said once the water temp begins to approach the low 70s high 60 degree range we can expect the fall feeding frenzy to begin in earnest. We endorse trophy fish catch and release! Let them go and they’ll grow on you. Remember: A bad day fishing is better than a great day at work! Did you know 10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish? We support catch and release. Throw ‘em back and they’ll grow on you! Bruce

I just spoke with the fisheries biologist and he believes that these fish are dying from a bacterial infection that is always present in the water . All of the fish are black crappie and the majority of them are about the same size. These are fish that are old " 5 years " and stunted and would never make the 9" keeper limit. All of the fish you might catch are safe to eat. CRAPPIE: Good: The crappie are in the deeper summer structure if you are
fishing the main lake and in the tree lines north of the W-hwy bridge. The main
lake brush is in 20' of water and the fish are 10' to 12' deep. The tree lines
up north can be in 6' to 15' of water with the fish about 8' deep. The size is
good with many of the fish in the 10" to 12" range. Try the new
christmas tree piles located on BASS: Poor: Based on Thursday evenings tournament results the bass seem to have lock jaw. Most of the fish are coming shallow on a variety of baits. Carolina Rigs, senkos, crank baits, jigs or worms. The secret seems to be finding a hungry fish and sticking something in its face. CATFISH: Fair to Good: Since they are running a little water now some
nice cats White Bass: Good : The white bass are schooled up and roaming the main lake points. You can watch for the surfacing fish in the mornings and evenings and throw rattle traps to them or during the day move out deeper on the points and use pepper spoons to find them. WALLEYE: Fair to poor :The walleye are on the main lake points but moving deeper. The deeper they move the harder they are to catch. Crank baits or jigs tipped with a crawler or leech can catch you some nice fish. Fish the long shallow points on the main lake. Updated 08/22/08 Lake Elevation at Normal Pool: 867.7 Temperature: 83 and falling Inflow: 200 cfs Outflow: 447 cfs Level: 2.26 feet high Report By: Square Deal Bait Shop Walleye good on night crawlers or crank baits Bluegill good on night crawlers or crickets Black bass fair on crank baits, grubs, or jigs Crappie fair on minnows Catfish fair on chicken liver Fishing Report by Thompson Fishing Guide Service : www.fishstockton.com August 27, 2008 Stockton Lake Fishing Report Lake level 869.42 Walleye fishing is fair. It has slowed down a little bit from what it was in the last two weeks, however, you can catch fish if you are in the right place at the right time. The right time could be anytime the way walleye are, especially with water temperatures cooler than usual. The more time you spend on the lake, the better. Move around a lot. The majority of the fish are caught on main lake points that are adjacent to mud flats. For the exact location, you need to look at your map. Fish will be in around 18-20 feet of water on average, they are somewhat scattered because bait fish are everywhere. You can forget about the old adage, "Find the bait, find the fish." Road runners and night crawlers, bottom bouncers with night crawlers, and crawler harnesses should catch fish. Slow drift these areas through the fish you have marked on your depth finder. It may not be a bad idea to throw out markers where you see large concentrations of fish, that way the majority of your time is spent in productive water. It may not be wise to throw out your markers if several other boats are in the area, because more often than not, you’ll make a lot of friends… Trolling crank baits in these same areas is also a good idea, and you can cover a lot of water. Deep diving small bass-type crank baits seem to be the best; you need to experiment. Wiggle Warts, Wally Divers are the types of baits that seem to be the most productive. Late afternoon and early evenings are the best time to go. Crappie fishing has been good, and limits are being caught in the timbered coves on minnows or crappie jigs and minnows in around 15-25 feet of water. Brush piles off main lake points are also good. The ones that are marked are ok, but the ones that are not marked are a lot better due to less fishing pressure. Mark the brush pile, anchor downwind (hopefully the anchor will hold at the right place at the right time) so you are about a half cast away from the brush pile. With this presentation, slip bobbers are the only way to go. If you try to position the boat right over the brush piles (particularly those that are shallow (10-15 feet deep), invariably your fishing partner is going to drop his tackle box or slam a compartment storage door and the fish will shut down or move altogether. A lot of people wonder why they are not catching crappie that they spot on their scope, and this could be one of the main reasons: too much noise. You shouldn’t have trouble catching crappie right now. Largemouth and small mouth bass fishing has been good. The big question that is being asked now is "How do I get away from the undersized fish?" The best way to accomplish this is to locate schools of bass in deeper water (15-25 feet deep). Most of your smaller fish will stay out of these areas. If you go along just casting at the shore, you’ll never get away from Junior Jaws. Another thing to do to get away from these little fish is to use bigger baits. I use 10-12 inch plastic worms and have been catching 3-6 pound fish consistently this summer. If you are not a worm guy, use a bigger jig. Vertical fish spinner baits (1/2 oz- 1 oz) or deep diving crank baits for these deeper fish. My experience this summer has been that a slower presentation will get you more bites. My theory is with an overwhelming amount of bait in the lake, and as fat as these fish are, they are not going to expend a whole lot of energy running something down when they are really not hungry anyway. Blue gill fishing on main lake points in about 25 feet of water with night crawlers has been real good for big blue gill. Channel cats are also being caught in the same areas that the blue gill are on night crawlers or chicken livers fished vertically from an anchored position.

Updated 08/29/08 Temperature: level: Report by River Run Outfitters So far this week, we have seen a pretty consistent pattern with the water flow. Turning it off around midnight and keeping it off until 11:00 a.m. to noon the next day. Stan on the water with Brian, a Sheriff’s Officer from Kansas, yesterday. They had a great day on the Big Ugly with a black, size 18 midge dropper. When the water came on, they switched to the red size 16 midge with a red size 16 San Juan and fished the rise. This too fish very well. Jim had David and his Dad from Arkansas on the river. They had so much fun, they went out again today. Their best bug was the size 14 Miracle Scud. From the reports we are getting from our customers, depending on where you are on the water, almost everything is working. Know the size 14 olive wooly bugger with no beadhead is working as well as the holographic green crackleback and dark olive soft hackles. Jim was out with Frank and Shirley from Arkansas yesterday. They had a tough day. Not too many hits. He fished the black midge, blood worm and soft hackle. They could see lots of fish, but, for the most part they were not interested in what they were throwing. Probably full of dead scud. When then dropped the water, the banks were alive with scud wiggling in the rocks.

TRUMAN LAKE Updated 08/27/08 Lake Elevation at Normal Pool: 706.0 Temperature: 79 Water Clarity: Clear to light stained Report By: Sterettcreek.com Fishing Report from Sterett Creek Marina 8/27/08 Like I said last week I think our seasons are a little confused right now. This weather feels more like the end of Sept than the first part. Our water temp is about 10 deg below what it was a year ago this time, so I know the fish have to be confused. The lake is in fantastic shape and is only about 1 1/2' high. The COE is still generating a little power every day so we have a little current flow in the afternoon and early evenings. With the holiday coming in this weekend we are hoping that the fishing will really get going. LAKE LEVEL: 707.39 BASS: The bass fishing here on Truman remains good. There were some 18 lb stringers weighed in this weekend and last night in 3 hours it took 12.72 lbs with Marty Watson and Doug Long taking the honors. They also had big bass weighing 4.18 lbs. Second went to Clint Rayburn and Jack Hockett with 11.79 lbs. Third was Steve Blake and Jim Lehares with 7.67 lbs. It seems that the bass have started to move out on the humps. Look for humps with 8' to 16' of water on them. Big worms still seem o be the best producing baits. CRAPPIE: The crappie bite is still on again off again. Last weekend we saw several limits of good fish come in. Then for some reason they slowed down on Monday. I did hear there is a pretty good bite on the Grand River arm. Look for fish from 4' to 17' that isn't a misprint 4'. For some reason these fish have gone shallow. Fish the tree rows on the flats with minnows. There is also fish holding on the brush piles in 12' to 15'. Minnows are working here also. WHITES HYBRIDS: Had a few reports of surfacing fish in the KK Island area. Whites and big hybrids. Sassy shad and Pop R's were working the best. The shad are finally in the right sized pods to get these fish going. CATFISH: Jugs are the best of the best. Perch and little smokies are working. Best bite has been in 17' to 25' of water. The edge of the flats close to a channel has been the most productive. That's it for this week from Sterett Creek Marina Till next week Tommy
