Delbert A 16 ft with a 9.9 might be pushing it a bit for power. What I'm saying is the current on the Missouri is around 6-7 mph, that is pretty strong for a current plus a 16 ft. It will be hard to get around. First you need to look at how fast your boat will travel on a lake. You need to run faster than 10 mph to do any good against the current. Out of the main current you shold be just fine. If you do go out, stay away from the Dykes until you get more used to the river. You won't have enough power to get out of trouble.
