LAKE of the Ozarks

Lake Elevation at Normal Pool: 660.0 Temperature: 55

Inflow: 1800 cfs Outflow: 500 cfs. Level: 4.10 feet low

Lake Map

Report by Missouri Angler Bait & Tackle

The lake level is 656.1 with a surface water temperature taken at Bagnell Dam of 55 degrees. The lake is clear with a visibility of 3 to 5 feet. The water temperature in the upper ends of the Osage, Niangua, Grand Glaize and Gravois Rivers range from 55 to 45 degrees. Since the rapid cooling of the water temperature, fishing has improved with more limits of largemouth being caught. It appears the best bite is late morning and afternoon.

LARGEMOUTH BASS - GOOD Jerk baits worked around docks on secondary points and channel swings have been producing keeper size largemouth. Jig n pig has also been producing on the same type of structure from 10 to 15 feet. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits worked on channel banks and points in the creeks have been producing. The buzzbaits worked in the backends of the creeks, channel side, has produced at times.

SPOTTED BASS (KENTUCKY'S) - GOOD Jerk baits, jig n pig and spinner baits worked in the windy creek arm pockets and points are producing kentucky's 12 to 14 inches in length.

CRAPPIE - GOOD Minnows from 10 to 25 feet over brush in the creeks and larger main lake pockets. The larger crappie, 12 to 13 inches, have been coming out of 20 to 25 feet of water.

WHITE BASS -GOOD small spinner baits, such as Mepps and Road Runners, and small medium depth crankbaits off windy banks and points.

DAM AREA, KIMBERLING, BAXTER, CAMPBELL POINT

WATER TEMP.56-58

It's here!! The cold weather has turned on the fish. We had a great weekend, on Saturday I caught over 15 keepers and may shorts, looked lift footballs. Sunday not as many keepers, but still a good day compared to what it has been. Monday we went out and hit'em again. I knew they had to start getting active sooner or later, and usually Thanksgiving time is best when we et the cold weather. On the main lake we caught most of our fish deep. we fished main lake points 45' - 60' deep, on 3/4 oz jigging spoons, gitzits and grubs (color: smoke of clear w/silver flake), on 5/16-3/8 oz. head, on 6lb test line. Some Kentucky's are also being caught on a Carolina rigged or a "drop shot" rig, which is rigged with a bell sinker, 1/4 oz. to 3/4 oz. tied to the end of the line. Then tie on a 1/0 hook-16" - 24" above the weight, use a 4" worm, hula grub, or any other plastic bait. The presentation on this type of rig is vertical. Also try fishing that 3/4 oz. chrome or white jigging spoon on bluff end points where the main channel swings away from the point.

UPPER JAMES RIVER , KING'S RIVER, & LONG CREEK

WATER TEMP. 54-56

Largemouth are chasing shad in the James in the backs of creeks, from Point #10 to above Cape Fair. Best was from the Bridgeport bridge up as far as you could go. We caught some nice largemouth, slow rolling a spinnerbait through the shad schools. we caught them on a 1/2 oz. Bass Hound spinnerbait w/tandem willow leaf blades, and color were white/chartreuse. You have to go in and out of several before you find the shad, watch close on the surface and on your depth finder. When you find them, stay back about 100" and follow the shad while casting your spinnerbait into them. It takes a lot of patience to follow the schools but you can be rewarded with quality fish. We are also cranking them up on steep chunk rock banks, using Storm wigglewarts-colors-both crawdad and shad patterns. In the Kings River we have been doing a lot of spoon fishing and drop shooting with success, on long sloping points. On the drop shot we were using Root Beer and Green flake French fries, and catching some good ones. We tried several colors but thins one was the best for us on the particular day.

TANEYCOMO

Temperature:  Level:

Report by River Run Outfitters

Fishing continues to be very good on Lake Taneycomo. The only problem right now is generation. They have been generating early in the a.m. and running most of the day once or twice week. The rest of the time, they run until early afternoon, or not at all.

Fly fishing in the Trophy Trout Area is catching large numbers of fish as well as some nice size fish (18 inches plus). Best flies are:

size 14 flashback scud
size 14 tan scud
size 12 chartreuse glo-balls
size 12 roe red egg pattern
size 12 chamois leech
size 16 red micro San Juan worm
size 14 gray sow bug
size 8 and 10 olive woolly bugger
size 14 or 16 Adams
size 20 Li'l Easy, copper
size 14 & 16 Crackle Back

Deep water down below the Trophy Trout Areas is fishing well with 100th oz. olive, or black and yellow jigs and the 128th oz. chartreuse glo-ball.

Some of the area fishing docks report that bait fishing has also been good.
